CoreMedSource provides expert-developed training that combines experienced knowledge with real-world expertise provided in engaging lectures and an interactive format. Wound Care Basic Core Curriculum is a 16-hour, didactic course that provides you with all of the fundamental knowledge that you will need to care for a patient with either an acute or a chronic wound. You will learn how to think critically about wounds, learning the etiology, pathophysiology, and comorbidities that impact the clinician’s treatment plan. The wound care specialist is an expert on factors creating and impacting wounds, not simply knowing how to treat them. You will understand the complexities of acute wounds that may become chronic so they can impact patient outcomes through early intervention.

Delve deep into the nature of wounds and the pitfalls of wound healing. We will have a bit of fun in dispelling some common myths when it comes to treating wounds.

Examine the phases of wound healing and learn how to treat various wounds during the stages of healing. Wound healing is a dynamic process that can move both forwards and back through the phases, and we will discuss the factors that can affect the process and better prepare you to create a wound healing plan.

Discussion on the etiology behind many common wound types. This includes diabetic foot ulcers, vascular wounds, pressure, injuries, and neoplastic wounds, among others. Understanding the disease is imperative to understanding how to treat the patient. Wounds occur for a reason and this lecture is designed to help you determine the “why” behind the wound.

Comprehensive curriculum that builds confidence. Our informative and insightful lectures help the student determine what treatments are best to treat specific types of wounds. Detailed case studies will review rationale behind treatments options.

This course may be taken standalone for a solid foundation of wound care knowledge, or along with Advanced Wound Care Core Curriculum for full, overarching training in the art of wound care. The full course has been reviewed by the National Alliance of Wound Care & Ostomy (NAWCO) Certification Committee and meets the eligibility requirements for the Wound Care Certified (WCC®) examination. Both Basic and Advanced programs must be taken to meet hour requirements.
